After a long hiatus, I wanted to share this (I believe) important new article I just wrote for The New Criterion. In it, I argue that the Trump administration’s takeover of the Kennedy Center can provide a vital antidote to the equity-politics virus that has infected classical music over recent years. By starting a new think tank that offers an alternative to the League of American Orchestras’ highly damaging approaches to hiring, auditioning, and programming, and replacing them with approaches that prioritize musicianship and genuine equality, the new Kennedy Center can play a key role in returning American classical music to health.
