Most times when we run across a work by a canonic composer that is never performed, we find that its obscurity is well deserved. Beethoven’s The Glorious Moment is, in a word, inglorious. But occasionally a conductor has the joy of running across a beautiful stone in the repertoire that has gone inexplicably unturned.
